Taunt is a Dark-type status move. It has no power or accuracy in the traditional sense as it does not deal damage or miss; instead, it always affects the target. Taunt forces the opponent to use only damaging moves for the next three turns, preventing them from using status moves like stat boosts, healing, or non-damaging condition infliction attacks. This move is strategically valuable in competitive play for disrupting an opponent's strategy, especially those reliant on setting up. It can be learned by a wide variety of Pokémon, adding to its versatility and strategic importance.
Target is forced to only use damaging moves for the next 3–5 turns, selected at random. Moves that select other moves not known in advance do not count as damaging. assist, copycat, me first, metronome, mirror move, and sleep talk do not directly inflict damage and thus may not be used. bide, counter, endeavor, metal burst, and mirror coat are allowed.
Short Effect: For the next few turns, the target can only use damaging moves.
