Mat Block

Fighting

Summary

Mat Block is a non-damaging Fighting-type move introduced in Generation VI. It has no power or accuracy because it doesn't deal damage. When used, Mat Block protects the user and its allies from damaging moves for one turn, but it only works if the user moves first in the turn and it fails if the user is not switched out afterwards or if it is no longer the first turn on the field. This move is particularly interesting because it mirrors the concept of a mat used in Judo to block attacks, and it is exclusive to the Pokémon Greninja. Mat Block is often used in double battles to provide strategic defensive opportunities, allowing teammates to set up safely.
