Hold Back

Normal

Summary

Hold Back is a Normal-type move with 40 power and 100% accuracy. This move guarantees that the target is not knocked out, leaving it with at least 1 HP. Hold Back is primarily used for catching wild Pokémon, as it allows the user to weaken the target without fainting it. Conceptually similar to the move False Swipe, Hold Back ensures the target remains catchable even when its HP is very low. Unlike many offensive moves, it does not have any secondary effects such as causing status conditions. Hold Back is typically learned via special in-game events or Move Tutors, making it less common but very useful for Pokémon trainers focused on capturing rather than battling.
