Contrary is an ability in the Pokémon series that inverts the effects of stat changes on the user. Normally, moves or abilities that would lower the user's stats instead increase them, and those that would normally increase stats will decrease them. For instance, if a move like Leaf Storm, which usually lowers the user's Special Attack after use, is employed by a Pokémon with Contrary, it will raise the user's Special Attack by two stages instead.

Effects: 1. Stat Inversion: Contrary affects any stat changes during battle, whether they result from moves, abilities, or items. A Pokémon with Contrary that uses a move like Superpower, which typically lowers Attack and Defense, will instead see a raise in those stats. 2.
