Key Stone

Key Stone is a special held item in the Pokémon series that allows for Mega Evolution, a temporary transformation that significantly boosts a Pokémon's stats and can also change its abilities and, in some cases, its type. For a Pokémon to Mega Evolve, its Trainer must possess a Key Stone, typically embedded in an accessory like a Mega Ring, Mega Bracelet, or Mega Pendant, and the Pokémon must hold a corresponding Mega Stone specific to its species, such as Charizardite X or Lucarionite.

Introduced in Pokémon X and Y, Mega Evolution offers strategic depth to battles by enabling a mid-battle transformation that can turn the tide of a match. Once per battle, the player can Mega Evolve a Pokémon, and this transformation lasts until the end of the battle. Mega Evolutions often come with significant stat boosts; for example, Mega Charizard Y has increased Special Attack and Speed compared to its standard form.
