Destiny Knot is an item in the Pokémon series with dual primary uses, serving different purposes in battles and breeding.
Effect in Battles: When a Pokémon holding a Destiny Knot becomes infatuated (inflicted with the Attract status condition), the Destiny Knot reflects this infatuation back to the opposing Pokémon. This look-alike infatuation makes the opponent also become infatuated, potentially immobilizing both Pokémon.
Effect in Breeding: Destiny Knot is more commonly known for its significant role in the breeding mechanics of Pokémon games. When one of the parent Pokémon holds a Destiny Knot during the breeding process, five of the offspring's six individual values (IVs) will be inherited from the parents. This drastically improves the chances of breeding Pokémon with optimal or desirable IVs, making it a critical tool for trainers aiming for competitive battle-ready Pokémon.
