Summary
Protean is a unique and powerful ability in the Pokémon series that allows the user to change its type to match the type of the move it is about to use. This transformation happens just before the move is executed, making the Pokémon's type identical to the move's type, which can provide various strategic advantages during battles.
Effects:
- Type Change: When a Pokémon with Protean uses a move, it changes its type to match the move's type. For example, if a Protean Pokémon uses a Water-type move, it will become a Water-type Pokémon before the move is executed.
- STAB Bonus: Since the Pokémon changes its type to match the move, it will always receive the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB), which increases the move's power by 50%.
- Defensive Adaptability: By changing its type, a Protean Pokémon can potentially gain resistances or immunities to incoming attacks, enhancing its defensive capabilities
